Does Food Type Matter? Reversing Type 2 Diabetes

Many doctors are content to simply treat the symptoms of diabetes, but whether due to negligence, greed or ignorance, too few strive for reversing type 2 diabetes. There is a common misconception that either sugar or gaining too much weight, either one, is responsible for the diabetes epidemic. It has been proven that type 2 diabetes can be reversed with a low calorie diet as well as a more healthy, plant based diet. But the question was, was the vegetable-based diet helpful in reversing the disease because of the food, or because healthy food tends to be very low calorie?

This question was put to the test. Subjects were put into two groups – one with a plant-based diet, and the other a semi-starved liquid-based diet and both groups lost roughly the same amount of weight. What most would not expect, however, is that even individuals who gained weight on the plant diet still managed to reverse their diabetic condition. Clearly, weight loss alone is not the only way to get rid of this affliction. Odd that we don’t normally consider this route when dealing with diabetes, because we have had clinical evidence of its effectiveness dating back to the 1930’s.

Later on in the 1970’s, an experiment testing the efficacy of a vegan diet on diabetes had patients eat so much food that they lost no weight. The diet was so strenuous that some had difficulty eating the large amount of food required. Results that followed were eye opening. Of the 20 participants in the study, half were able to stop insulin injections, and overall insulin requirements were cut by about 60%. What’s even more astonishing is that this was accomplished in less than two weeks. Some of the people in this experiment had been diabetic for decades, but were able to completely reverse the condition in mere days just eating the correct food. Reversing type 2 diabetes is very real. Your body’s ability to heal itself given the right fuel is truly amazing.
